Orlando Gayming League (OGL)

Building structure, community, and sustainability for a growing nonprofit

The Orlando Gayming League (OGL) is a community-driven organization focused on creating inclusive gaming experiences and social connection. As the organization transitioned into a formal nonprofit, the need shifted from informal coordination to structured operations, sustainable funding, and scalable programming.

I helped establish and lead the Orlando Gayming League as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit—building the systems, governance, and programming needed to support long-term growth and community engagement.

The Challenge

Transitioning into a nonprofit required building structure from the ground up.

This included:

  • Formal governance and compliance
  • Consistent programming and event structure
  • Sustainable funding sources
  • Scalable community engagement

At the same time, growth needed to be intentional—balancing expansion with maintaining a strong, inclusive community experience.

My Role

As Chairman of the Board during OGL’s first year as a 501(c)(3), I helped establish the operational and organizational foundation.

This included:

  • Drafting bylaws and governance structure
  • Leading board operations and meeting cadence
  • Supporting programming and event structure
  • Contributing to funding and membership initiatives
  • Helping guide overall strategic direction

The Approach

In a high-volume campaign environment, improving output wasn’t about doing more—it was about building systems that could scale efficiently.

Establishing Governance

Establishing Governance & Structure

To transition into a formal nonprofit, foundational systems were required.

I drafted the organization’s bylaws and established board processes, including:

  • Meeting cadence
  • Agenda structure
  • Documentation standards

This created clarity, accountability, and consistency across leadership operations.

Funding Systems

Building Sustainable Funding Systems

To support long-term operations, we needed predictable revenue.

I helped launch OGL+, a membership program designed to create recurring income and support programming.

In parallel, we secured sponsorships that became the primary funding source for events and operations.

Structuring Programs

Structuring Programs & Events

Established a repeatable framework for planning and executing community events, ensuring consistency across venues, formats, and attendance levels. Each event was structured to balance accessibility for newcomers with depth for returning members, creating an experience that scales without losing its sense of community.

Operational logistics were streamlined through the use of Zeffy, a non-profit platform that centralized event registration, attendee communication, and donation management. This allowed us to efficiently manage RSVPs, automate email correspondence, and support sponsorship opportunities—all within a single system.

This created a structured event system that not only reduced operational overhead, but made it easier to consistently deliver high-quality, repeatable experiences as the community grew.

Community Engagement

Scaling Community Engagement

As the organization grew, community infrastructure needed to expand across multiple platforms.

I helped structure and grow our digital presence across Discord, Instagram, and Facebook—each serving a distinct role in how members discover, engage with, and participate in the community.

  • Discord served as the central hub for real-time communication, event coordination, and member interaction
  • Instagram became the primary platform for engagement—highlighting events, showcasing community moments, and driving awareness
  • Facebook supported broader visibility, event promotion, and accessibility for a wider audience

By aligning these platforms into a cohesive system, we were able to grow the community while maintaining strong engagement and consistent communication across touchpoints.
